Chef Jason Santos opens new restaurant, Citrus & Salt, in Back Bay

Citrus & Salt, Chef Jason Santos’ newest culinary expedition, opened in Boston’s Back Bay Monday night. Inside, the white-washed brick walls, strings of patio lights, and rows of desert plants in ceramic pots relocate guests right into the sights, sounds and smells of the Baja Coast. “It’s Mexican, but it’s not predictable Mexican,” Santos said in an interview. Citrus & Salt’s menu is an experiment in “playful, reimagined coastal cuisine,” according to the restaurant’s press release. With a raw bar and a variety of small plates, diners can try anything from pan-fried blowfish tails with almond jam and gooseberry salsa to crab and cactus chowder to warm agave-glazed biscuits with cinnamon

First Look: Citrus & Salt, Spicing Up Back Bay With Chef-Driven Mexican

"Hell's Kitchen" alum Jason Santos is back with his latest concept The gist: In February, Hell's Kitchen runner-up chef Jason Santos opened Buttermilk & Bourbon, his homage to New Orleans–inspired cuisine in the middle of Boston's Back Bay. Less than a year later, he's rolling out Citrus & Salt, a Mexican-inflected eatery that officially opens on November 27. Citrus & Salt represents a total overhaul of the space that formerly housed Santos' New American restaurant Back Bay Harry's. After parting ways with his eponymous co-owner in that venture, Santos wanted to give the address a "total reinvention," he says. And why not? He's feeling pretty rejuvenated himself. "This is the happiest I've b

A celebrity chef is bringing a new restaurant to the Back Bay

Citrus & Salt will serve up "MexiCali flavors." If you’ve been in Boston for a bit, you may have dined at one of Chef Jason Santos’s restaurants: Abby Lane in the Theater District, and Buttermilk & Bourbon and Back Bay Harry’s in the Back Bay. This fall, the blue-haired celebrity chef and restauranteur closed Back Bay Harry’s with plans to revamp it into Citrus & Salt. The new spot “will deliver MexiCali flavors and beachy, coastal vibes to guests in the heart of the Back Bay,” according to a press release. That means a menu filled with cactus and crab chowder, smoked jalapeno butter-poached shrimp, braised lamb neck tortas, and these nachos, for starters: FULL ARTICLE

Citrus & Salt Opens

Blue-haired celebrity chef and restaurateur Jason Santos is excited to unveil his new concept, Citrus & Salt. Located at 142 Berkeley St., Santos’ newest venture will deliver MexiCali flavors and beachy, coastal vibes to guests in the heart of the Back Bay. Santos, who currently owns and operates Boston’s Abby Lane and Buttermilk & Bourbon, aims to channel the success of Buttermilk & Bourbon’s focused concept and translate it into sister restaurant, Citrus & Salt, based off of a similar format and execution. Instead of drawing influence from Santos’ love of the bayou, Citrus & Salt will draw influence from Santos’ love of the Baja coast of California and Mexico. Most recently hailing fro

Citrus & Salt Opens Soon, and There Will Be Dole Whips

A longtime Back Bay restaurant will be reborn this month with a new name, new menu, and new decor. On November 27, Back Bay Harry’s transforms into Citrus & Salt, a Baja-inspired restaurant with a menu that reflects chef Jason Santos’s enthusiasm for the coastal cuisine of Southern California and Mexico. Just nine months after debuting the New Orleans-inspired Buttermilk & Bourbon in the former BarLola space, Santos moves west for his newest project. The Mexico- and California-influenced menu at Citrus & Salt (142 Berkeley St.) features items like braised lamb flautas, Jonah crab tostadas, a duck carnitas empanada, beer-battered fish tacos, and ceviche, as Boston Magazine reports. At the shindig, we hear she joined about 530 other guests, including a share of Boston Bruins alumni. SNACKS BY SANTOS: Chef Jason Santos — the man behind Boston haunts Buttermilk & Bourbon, Abby Lane and the soon-to-open Citrus & Salt — recently stopped by NBC’s “Today Show” with host Carson Daly, whipping up some Cape Cod Spiced Chicken Sliders and Clam Dip.

Worth Its Salt

A new spot injects Mexican flavor into the Back Bay Jason Santos is not afraid to be colorful. From his signature blue hair to the painted pink floors of his forthcoming restaurant Citrus & Salt, the celebrity chef and restaurateur’s aesthetic is anything but boring. And now, after opening the New Orleans-themed Buttermilk & Bourbon in Back Bay earlier this year, Santos is transforming his now-shuttered Back Bay Harry’s into a Mexican concept, set to open Nov. 27. “Just like with myself in life, I’m not taking anything too seriously. We’re definitely taking some culinary creativity and creative licenses here,” Santos says. “I wanted it to be a fish-driven menu, a kind of funky version of s

Citrus & Salt Replaces Back Bay Harry’s in November

With chicharron tacos, ceviches, and Dole Whip, here's a first look at the Mexi-Cali menu. It seems like Buttermilk & Bourbon’s menu would be a fun travel companion. Chef Jason Santos takes his New Orleans-rooted restaurant on a Latin American-inspired tour at Citrus & Salt, opening later this month in the former Back Bay Harry’s space, with a wide lens on Mexican and coastal cuisine. To wit: Buttermilk’s pimento cheese and cinnamon-buttered biscuits are reimagined with blue corn, agave, poblano peppers, and the Spanish word for cinnamon. Citrus & Salt’s signature soft-serve sorbet is Dole Whip, the creamy pineapple cup of many sunny vacations in Florida (a 20 percent Spanish-speaking state)
