It’s ironic (don’t you think) that with so many of our pandemic-era dining options limited, we’re somehow even more overwhelmed by the question, “What should I eat tonight?” Allow our Meal Plan series to come to the rescue: When you’re tired of takeout from the same ol’ corner spot, or too exhausted to cook for yourself yet again, consult this weekly lineup of day-to-day dining suggestions and explore hot openings, new menus, innovative delivery concepts, and more. Here are our picks for the week of January 4, 2021.
Thursday: Watch chef Jason Santos in his new Hell’s Kitchen role while trying takeout from one of his Boston restaurants.
It’s been 10 years (!) since chef Jason Santos scored the runner-up slot on Hell’s Kitchen. On Thursday, the famously blue-haired toque returns to the new season of Gordon Ramsay’s hit Fox TV show—this time, though, he’ll be coaching other contestants as they muddle (and sizzle, and flambé) their way through various cooking challenges. Santos will star in every episode as Ramsay’s “sous chef,” dispensing advice and mentorship to competitors. And what better way to watch him at work than with takeout from one of Santos’ restaurants? Order up some funky New Orleans-style eats from Buttermilk & Bourbon in the Back Bay or B&B Fish, its new, seafood-oriented sibling in Gloucester. Citrus & Salt, meanwhile, have tacos, ceviche, bottled margaritas, and more coastal Mexican-inspired fare. And there’s also downtown’s Abby Lane, with its people-pleasing menu of burgers, po'boys, and other New American offerings.
